W trek
Widely considered one of the best multi-day treks on Earth, this route takes you through dramatic valleys, past ancient glaciers, and to the base of the iconic granite towers.Distance: ~74 km (46 miles).Duration: 3 to 5 days.Difficulty: Moderate to Strenuous.Booking: Campsites and refugios (mountain huts) must be booked months in advance through official providers like CONAF, Vertice Patagonia, and Fantastico Sur.
Lake Pehoe is one of the first landscapes I saw on my trip to Patagonia and it’s one that blew me away the most. It’s in Torres del Paine National Park and there are loads of ways you can view the lake. I’ve linked to a hike called Condor Lookout that is a great (and easy) spot to go. I suggest driving around the park and admiring the views, walking around and exploring as you go. We pulled over where there were a couple of cars to see what people were up to and found the boardwalk in the above photo. Have fun exploring and don’t forget to ask the information/ticket center at the entrance for suggestions, too.
Laguna Torre

This is one of the best hikes in Patagonia because getting to the base of these dramatic peaks isn’t as difficult as you’d think. The hike starts in the town of El Chaltén and is on the longer side (in terms of length) but the elevation is minimal and there are incredible views all along the way to keep you distracted. My friends and I camped at the campground before the lake and woke up for sunrise. This is a must-do hike in Patagonia.

Laguna de los Tres, Argentina
Hike
Located in El Chaltén—the hiking capital of Argentina—this trail offers the most iconic, up-close views of Mount Fitz Roy and a brilliant turquoise glacial lake.Distance: ~21 km (13 miles) roundtrip.Duration: 8 to 9 hours.Difficulty: Strenuous (the final hour is a steep, rocky scramble).Cost: Free, departing right from the town of El Chaltén. Details and trail updates can be checked via AllTrails.
This hike starts in the town of El Chaltén—which is the starting point of many hikes in Patagonia. Laguna de Los Tres is one of the most popular hikes in the region because of the iconic peak, Mount Fitz Roy. My friends and I backpacked and camped at a campground just below the lake and made our way to the lake in the morning for sunrise. Most of the elevation is at the end but it’s well worth the climb.

Perito Moreno Glacier, Argentina
Perito Mereno Glacier in Argentina—one of the only glaciers in the world that isn’t receding yet (it gains 2m of ice per day). We went on a tour that allowed us to see the glacier from several viewing platforms, hike on the actual glacier, and even inside an ice cave. It was a great experience overall. We bought a tour from a tour company in the town before going.
