Rajkot, India
Fly in from Bengaluru to Rajkot (direct IndiGo/Air India ~2hrs). Day 1 is a gentle arrival + orientation day. Rajkot is the gateway to Saurashtra — clean, manageable city. Pick up your Innova here. Watson Museum and Rotary Dolls Museum are great for a 7-year-old. Must-eat: Jayshree Farsan for fafda-jalebi breakfast, Havmor for ice cream, and dinner at Jai Hind Restaurant for Kathiyawadi thali. Stay: The Imperial Palace or Regenta Inn Rajkot (mid-range, well-located). Day Plan: Land ~noon, check in, rest 1hr, Watson Museum 3–5pm (kid-friendly exhibits), stroll Sadar Bazaar for snacks and Rajkot's famous bandhani fabric shopping, light Kathiyawadi thali dinner. If Navratri garba is happening at Race Course Ground, catch 1–2 hrs post dinner (low pressure, totally incidental — it is spectacular in Rajkot).

Gir Forest National Park, India
Gir is the ONLY place in the world to see Asiatic Lions in the wild — this is the absolute centrepiece of the trip and non-negotiable for a 7-year-old's memory. Drive Rajkot to Gir ~170km, 3.5hrs via NH 27 (comfortable Innova ride, stop at Jetpur if timing allows for famous bandhani/saree market). Stay 3 nights. Best stay: Amidhara Resort Gir (beautiful, kid-friendly, pool, safari packages included) or Gir Birding Lodge (more immersive wildlife feel). Day 2 (First full day at Gir): Morning Jeep Safari 6–9am (BOOK IN ADVANCE on girlion.in — slots fill fast, book 90 days prior), this is prime lion-sighting time. Breakfast back at resort. Afternoon rest/pool for kid. Visit Crocodile Rearing Centre at Sasan Gir village (3–5pm, free entry, kid will love it). Sunset walk near Hiran River. Dinner at resort. Day 3 (Second full day): Second morning jeep safari 6–9am (different zone for variety — request Zone B or C). Post safari: Visit Kamleshwar Dam watchtower for bird and crocodile spotting. Post breakfast, check out and drive to Somnath ~45km, 1hr. Must-eat near Gir: Sasan's local dhabas serve excellent Surti Undhiyu and bajra rotla with jaggery-ghee. Somnath, India
Somnath Jyotirlinga is one of the 12 most sacred Shiva temples in India — even for non-religious visitors the architecture and Arabian Sea setting is breathtaking. Drive from Gir 45km, 1hr. Check in: ITDC Somnath Ashok (government heritage property right next to temple, sea view — book early) or Utsav Resort Somnath. Day Plan: Arrive by noon, check in, lunch (try Somnath Trust dining hall for simple sattvic thali, very authentic). Temple darshan 3–5pm (arrive before sunset for best light and manageable crowds). The Sound and Light Show at Somnath temple premises at 8pm is UNMISSABLE — 45 mins, English/Hindi, tells the temple's history dramatically, perfect for the kid's imagination. Bhalka Tirth (where Lord Krishna was struck by arrow) is 5km away — quick spiritual pitstop. Beach at Somnath is rocky but dramatic. Morning of next day: Sunrise at temple (magical), quick Triveni Sangam visit (confluence of 3 rivers meeting sea). Drive onward to Diu by 9am — 90km, 2hrs.

Diu, India
Diu is a Union Territory and former Portuguese colony — think clean beaches, colonial architecture, zero tourist chaos, and a completely different vibe from mainland Gujarat. It is absolutely magical for families. Drive from Somnath ~90km, 2hrs. Stay: Hoka Boutique Resort or Radhika Beach Resort (both excellent, beachfront, kid-friendly pools). Day 1 at Diu: Diu Fort (Portuguese, 16th century, gorgeous — kids love running around the bastions, sea on 3 sides), St. Paul's Church (most beautiful baroque church in India after Goa's), Diu Museum, Naida Caves (labyrinthine network, feels like a natural castle for kids, very photogenic). Evening: Sunset at Nagoa Beach — calm, shallow, safe for kids swimming. Dinner: Casa De Lorenzo (excellent seafood and continental, colonial setting) or Apana Foodland for Gujarati-Diu fusion. Day 2 at Diu: Morning: Gangeshwar Temple (5 Shivlings submerged in sea — dramatic and beautiful), Jallandhar Beach for shell collecting with kid. Afternoon: Rent a 2-wheeler or small car (distances tiny, 12–15km island total — perfect for self-drive!) and do a slow loop of the island. Sunset at Ghoghla Beach. Shopping: Diu Market for sea shells, Portuguese-style ceramics, local cashew feni (for adults). Drive next morning to Junagadh ~140km, 2.5hrs.

Junagadh, India
Junagadh is criminally underrated — ancient rock edicts of Ashoka, a hill with 10,000 steps, a phenomenal zoo, and dramatic Kathiyawadi food. Drive from Diu ~140km, 2.5hrs. Stay: Relief Hotel (comfortable heritage feel, central) or Hotel Girnar. Day Plan: Arrive by noon. Uparkot Fort (ancient, with giant cannons, Buddhist caves, stepwells — easy 2hr walk, kid-friendly) 1–3pm. Mahabat Maqbara (incredibly ornate mausoleum, Indo-Gothic architecture, looks like a fairy-tale building) — quick 30min stop. Junagadh Zoo (one of Gujarat's best zoos — lions, leopards, deer, birds — good compliment to Gir for the kid) 4–6pm. Evening: Walk Kalwa Chowk area for street food. Must-eat Junagadh: Sweets from Mangrol Mithai, Junagadh's famous Gir Kesar Mango products (out of season but kesar mango ice cream sold year-round), and a proper Kathiyawadi thali at Hotel Santoor. If time: Girnar hill sunrise trek (10,000 steps) is for another trip — skip given 7-year-old. Drive to Palitana next morning.

Palitana, India
Palitana is the Jain pilgrimage capital of the world — 900+ temples on Shatrunjaya Hill, built over 900 years. Even if not Jain, this UNESCO-recognised site is visually one of the most extraordinary places in India. Drive Junagadh to Palitana ~140km, 3hrs. Stay: Vijay Vilas Palace (heritage guesthouse, decent and convenient) or Sumeru Hotel. Day Plan: Arrive by noon, lunch, rest. The key decision for a 7-year-old: The full trek is 3,500+ steps up, manageable but challenging. Option A: Start trek 3pm, reach top in 1.5hrs, sunset at the temple complex (stunning), walk down as it cools, palanquin option available for tired kid on the way down. Option B: Start early next morning at 6am for sunrise (most recommended). Temples close at specific times (check at base). The palanquin (doli) is a fun experience for the kid regardless. Bhavnath area near base has good snacks and chai. Palitana town itself: Unique because the entire town is vegetarian (India's first vegetarian city by law). Must-eat: Jain thali at any local restaurant — clean, pure, delicious. No onion/garlic but incredibly flavourful. Drive onward to Bhavnagar or directly to Ahmedabad. Recommend going directly to Ahmedabad via Bhavnagar bypass ~190km, 4hrs.

Ahmedabad, India
Ahmedabad is the grand finale — a UNESCO World Heritage City, India's first. It is a sensory feast: incredible street food, Sabarmati Ashram, the old walled city pol houses, and some of India's finest Indo-Saracenic architecture. 3 days here is well-spent. Best stay options: House of MG (heritage hotel in old city, stunning courtyard, top-tier restaurant Agashiye — MUST book) or Novotel Ahmedabad/Hyatt Regency (if you prefer modern comfort, both great for families). Day 1 in Ahmedabad: Morning: Sabarmati Ashram (Gandhi's home — moving, peaceful, great for planting historical seeds in kid's mind), 9–11am. Afternoon: Adalaj Stepwell (stunning 5-storey octagonal vav, extraordinarily photogenic, kid will love the geometric patterns and depth) 11:30am–1pm. Lunch: Agashiye rooftop at House of MG (iconic Gujarati thali, one of India's best, book ahead). Post lunch rest. Evening: Kite Museum and Old City walk — Manek Chowk (jewellery bazaar by day, street food heaven by night). Dinner at Manek Chowk night market — the famous pav bhaji, dosas, sweets right in the open square. Day 2 in Ahmedabad: Morning: Sidi Saiyyed Mosque (the famous jali — tree of life lattice window, gorgeous), Jama Masjid, Heritage walking tour of pols (narrow old city lanes with wooden haveli doorways — Doshiwada ni Pol, Mandvi ni Pol), 9am–12pm. Afternoon: Science City Ahmedabad (fabulous for the 7-year-old — planetarium, aquarium, robotic gallery, energy park) 2–6pm. Evening: CG Road/Manek Chowk shopping. Dinner: Vishalla restaurant (open-air village-themed dinner experience, cultural puppetry shows, phenomenal traditional food — unmissable with a kid). Day 3 in Ahmedabad (Half day before flight): Morning: Hutheesing Jain Temple (intricate white marble), Law Garden market for chaniya cholis, bandhani, and Gujarati handicrafts (best souvenir shopping of the trip, 9–11am). If Navratri is still on (Oct 10–19 in 2025 approx), CG Road and GMDC Ground host massive garba events. Evening garba here even for 30–60 minutes is a spectacle unlike anything else in India — the costumes, the synchronised dance, thousands of people. Low pressure, just drop in incidentally. Fly out from Ahmedabad to Bengaluru. Must-eat Ahmedabad: Manek Chowk for night street food, Agashiye for grand thali, Gordhan Thal for budget thali, Green House restaurant at House of MG for breakfast, Amul ice cream parlour on CG Road, and Bhikhubhai's paan at Lal Darwaja.
